Which, front or back?

I'm guessing front! It's an effort to get out, but if you remove the grille - check the DIY Guides :P, then you'll see how the badge is held in, 3 "clips". Remove it, give it a light sand with fine wet n dry - spray with a tin of satin black from halfords, maybe a couple of coats. Refit. Simple :P
Sorry that's a bit rushed but I gotta go to bed!

If the worst comes to the worst a "few" people on here will have spare 9n front emblems lying around (I quick look through members rides will tell you - I can think of 4 off the top of my head) so someone could rescue you with a spare badge if it all goes pear shaped.

I think there was a bit of rotating involved in getting the badge off the grille as well -- but you do have to take the grill off as the emblem comes out through the back side.

One idea I thought of doing, but decided agsint it because it'd look pants with a chrome grille was - if you look closely at the emblem, you'll see that there's about an inch's worth of plastic "depth" behind the chrome itself - look and you'll see what I mean. The chrome looked like it should separate from this - so you'd get the chrome emblem and the "skeleton" of plastic behind - I'd though about spraying the plastic behind the chrome (red, yellow, VW blue??) and gluing the chrome back on top.

This would give flashes of colour that you wouldn't really be able to see from directly in front, but just from a few odd angles...

Just a thought...

Here's a pic of the back of the emblem -- might explain what I'm on about, but then it might not :D

:D brilliant idea about the plastic behind, for my first attempt i shall paint the back plastic reflex silver the colour of the car and then the chrome part i'll paint black and see how that looks and i'll do that for front and back, wont have time to do it today as i've got to work at 1 but i'll try and get the stuff to do it later. I'll show the results when it's done!!

Main thing i'm worried about is my painting capabilities so i could still screw it up! Still no harm in trying........then trying again....and again!

You might want to have a quick look at this:

and the bits of the link inside it about painting in particular.

I was thinking the same thing to do. But before trying I put some Black tape, instead of painting it, so I can have an idea of how it will look.

And I didn`t like it.

Is out of the question :?

Well i'm going ahead with it. If you see requests in the wanted section or VagParts then you know it's one of two things, it's poo or i buggered it up!!

Any how do you think it's best i primer the two sections first or not? The DIY guide didn't primer it, was wondering whether it'd be a better idea to primer it??!? :)

Where did you get the Reflex Silver from, VW?

Bought the paint from VW, did look in halfords (to save me the journey or a quater of a mile to vw  ) but they do just about every other silver but reflex silver. Besides did have that feeling it'd probably be best to stick to vw for the car colour paint. However did use the satin black from halfords! Thanks for that! :D
