You could get the MFD unit (G is the lastest one and you should try and get that) and get a dension kit and connect your ipod to it (if you have a ipod that is). I have a MFD2 unit in my Golf with my ipod attached to it and its sounds great and the ipod works a treat.
It works by tricking the headunit into thinking its a cd changer and you access the first 5 playlists from disc 1-5 and 6 is every song on the ipod. Its got a smart album function so if you here a song in your mix and want to hear the album you hit disc 6 and the forward track and it goes and plays the full album the song is from.

Read the stories on the web but touch wood mines has been fine.I have an mp3 player but not an iPod. They break too often so I decided against them.
The only problem with the single DIN flip out screen units is that they stick out the dash a fair bit when they are closed, the double din Pionner unit is stunning however it comes in at just under 2k !!
