Basics: Performance Exhaust, BMC Induction (+2-10 bhp extra each)
Further: Remap or professional chip, strip your car out! (+15 bhp)
Even Further: Turbo/Supercharger conversion, Engine conversion (all depends)

www.stormdevelopments.co.uk in Berkshire can fit a supercharger to a GTi, the same ones that are put on the koenigsegg. Supply and fit

Just ring up and ask for a quote!

Performance manifolds were up for sale on Club Polo a few months ago, try PMing Jez on CP to see where he got them from perhaps?

Supercharger conversion will be alot more than just slap on and go

I was talking to Yoof and he said something about mk5 bottom ends being really s**t. You will need all new conrods, new pistons, some decent headwork and injectors to supply the fuel and then management for it.

Lots of cash I reckon

More than it's worth, unless you love the polo and wouldnt have any other car

Will cost you thousands for any real improvement

Over a grand for any substantial power gain. Ignoring the 1.8T, I wonder if it is better to Turbocharge the 1.6 or Supercharge it. Or both...

Dont know but the GTI engine is tweeked as it is, start putting turbo's/SH's on it and you can pretty much forget reliability, the car would need lots of maintenance

Without throwing an absolute bucketload of cash at the car...
  • BMC induction kit or similar
stainless exhaust system cat-back or decat, owner's choice!
    stainless mainfold
    chipped
Then you're looking at in the region of maybe 150bhp? Would make a noticeable difference compared to standard IMO :)

Beyond that, break out the chequebook and try an engine swap, turbocharger conversion, or head into uncharted waters and rip the block apart to replace the internals with shiney new parts that might help it run better and kick out more power (as you can see my knowledge of such tuning is extensive)

This car is such a let down when it comes to engine mods vw should have put the 1.8t engine in from day one!!

The thing is VW didn't design or fit then engine with how many mods could be done to it, in mind.

And if they'd fitted the 1.8T then it would have been way quicker than the Golf.

And VW wouldn't have allowed that.
