Splitting rims

Post by Mouse_GTI »

Right tomorrow I need to get my wheels sorted. I know where to get the tyres taken off but firstly, what do I need to take off the wheels? And if I need to put the car on bricks, how do I do that? Also what screwheads do I use to split the rims?

Sorry for sounding like a complete n00b but this is all new to me :)

I wouldnt put it on bricks your'll end up damaging something. Get so Axle stands. If your doing them up you'll need the tyres off really.

Oh quick question. Does the new coating affect the ability to put the centres back in? I heard they can add a few mm and need to be sanded down or covered prior to the coating (if they are coated all round)?

I have no idea mate, im still in the middle of re-furbing my BBS wheels, just polishing the rims at the moment so not had the centres powder coated as yet, i think you might have a point though !

When I refurbed mine, the powdercoating meant the centres fitted a little bit more tightly.

However I didn't need to sand them or anything to get them to fit ok.

What about the bolt holes. Do you need to fill these with any thing or will the place that does the powder coating make sure that they dont get blocked with the paint?
