help got new gearbox lost 10 mph each gear....

hi all...
my gear box went and so i phoned up a gearbox restorer and they said they had one so paid Â£340 for it and another Â£150 getting it swapped over with the old one and found out i had lost arround 10 mph in each gear first just takes me to 31 mph when it use to be 40. gear box oiul has leaked every where constantley and didnt have fith gear so they said send it back and they will sort it and send it back to me. i had a new clutch as well. my gear linkage bracket has now broke so cant find no gears actually broke from the bolt. soo what i want to know how i can loose 10 mph..

i havent droped it out yet as i need to save more money so just wanted to know what and why i lost 10 mph and gearlinkage bracket has broke while driving..

Well I would guess that the gear ratios of the new 'box that has been put in don't match the ones from the original GTi gearbox.

yeh i was gonna say, it doesn't sound like The GTI gearbox. Could be one from the 16valvers 75 or 100bhp, not sure, but the ratio's would most likely be different.
