Insurance!!!

Post by GingerGogs »

Hi, the time has come to insure the first car! A thought whihc perhaps brings back nightmares for some of you. I had always lived by the intention of insuring it under my dad and going on the policy as a anamed driver however I have been warned that, should anything ever happen, it would be very obvious that I was the main driver . Whta are your experiences of insuring for the first time, and any suggestions as to the best place to look?

Many Thnaks, GingerGogs

With my first car I was a named driver for a year, then I got rid of that and got the GTi, now I'm on my own but paying for it

£1400 down from like £1700 odd

i don't think it's really a problem being insured as a named driver, just because theres no way to really prove that you drive it as the main. only problem being that any accidents will affect the other persons premium.

it's cheaper doing it this way although the problem being that you don't earn any NCB so i decided to insure mine myself, it was more but then this time round my insurance halved after my 1 yrs NCB

oh and the other thing i did was had me as the main driver but then put my brother as a named driver, i think because it shows someone older is almost supervising or something like that it makes it cheaper....even though ur getting more insurance for your money :?

No, but im only getting coilovers and wheels anyway (standard wheels are for the frosty months)

May shop around when the car has these, to see if i can get a better deal

Anyone know what a tesco premium would rise by with these mods ?

I think you're better off going it alone, you've gotta do it some time and whenever you do it you're gonna be hit with a big bill.

And most companies don't give named drivers unless you like went with Directline, which do?

I think the best thing to do is just go for it and start building NCB. It'll soon come down.

Firstly, thanks for the replies. It seems that it is a close fun thing. The broker claims that a lot of people are blatantly sacmming by adding on as a named driver, but warned that just last week a guy had to pay £6000 because he had done this, had an accident and got busted by the horrible insurance company. So now I'm looking at a grand to be a main driver on my 1.4 CL. Not great when still at school, but will have to get on with it. Thanks again, GingerGogs

to amend my policy with coilovers and a strut brace cost £100 plus a mid term amendment fee!
