There is a cleaning agent in it (like BP ultimate), so it should keep your fuel system free from deposits (hence the performance claim gimmick) ofcourse your car will perform better if the fuel system is kept clean, but thats not to say normal fuel is making it really dirty, it takes a long time for these deposits to build up.

But as for the whole performance thing, it's absolute rubbish 99 RON is certainly no race fuel LOL

Race fuel is more like 120 RON, and the cars are mapped for it

Fuel loses it's octane level the longer it's sat in the tank :wink:

TBH i just usually fill up with Ultimate/Optimax every now and again to help keep the fuel system clean, but 90% of the time i use normal unleaded.

Whether it's worth it or not is up to you, theres certainly no harm in using it.

The thing is the polo gti engine IS mapped for higher RON fuel, using normal 95 stuff in the gti will give lower performance, its designed to run on 98 RON fuel to give its quoted power. V-Power being an extra RON over optimax can only be a good thing as an extra deterrent against knock really too ?

I was just about to say this! Thanks for saving me having to type it :D

Yeah the GTi has a pretty high compression ratio, so using normal unleaded will give less performance due to knock etc.

Well if the the GTI is mapped for 98 RON by all means use it, but id bet you couldnt tell the difference in a blind test.

Anyway weve all got our own way of doing things, so do whatever your most happy with.

Indeed ! To me the car feels much 'happier' on Optimax/V-Power :lol:

Filled mine up with V-Power today. 98.9p per litre up here.

I've used Optimax since i bought the car, it says to fill with 98 RON on inside of filler cap, so 99RON V-power can only be better.

Started using it when i had my Vectra and it felt smoother and idled better with the higher octane fuel.

Even my Dad's said his Vectra idles better with Ultimate/Optimax. 8)

A member of ours on Club Lupo run his GTI on 95RON fuel on route from Linconshire to Inters in 2004.
By the time we were 100 miles from home, his car developed a misfire.
After a tank of Ultimate, the car fine and hasn't had the same problem since!

I've had my car almost a month and ran it only on Optimax. I'll stick with it unless they replace it with V-Power. If V-Power is an acceptable price I'll try sticking to it

I saw an advert on TV for V-Power today, developed with ferrari apparently...

I got an email from Shell this morning telling me about it.

Says it contains FMT (Friction Modification Technology) as used in the F1 Ferrari for 2006. Designed to help the engine run more efficiently. 8)

I noticed Tesco's super unleaded octane rating have gone up to 99RON and down here it's 96p a litre. It used to be 97RON.
