Another gearbox problem

Post by Ant_43 »

The whining/grinding noise (when in gear) on my gti recently got quite a bit louder after a long drive. When it was quiter my local garage thought it could be a clutch / flywheel problem.

So anyways, after taking it back they now think its the gearbox, particularly the "2nd motion shaft". Has anyone had this go (very likely) before, and how much was it to fix?

I also thought that if the gearbox needs replacing then i may as well try putting an improved 6-speed lupo box in (as posted up here before). I mentioned this to the garage, who asked a VW guy who was there at the time. He then told me that the lupo didn't have a 6-speed gearbox? Is this true?

Sorry for the essay above, and thanks for any replies or advice as to this s***!

In the meantime, i'm saving the pennies.

You're right Chris, not sure on the ins and outs of it but they can't be put in, would be cool if you could stick them in.
