burning smell?

for some strange reason everytime i put pedal to the metal i get a weird burning smell, its like a burning clutch smell (you know like the smell that comes out of the courtesy cars).
Its strange how it only happens when i really give it some, and not on any other occassion?
anyone else experienced this??
