Limo Tint... Legal??
Limo Tint... Legal??
I went to a tinters (is that the right word) to see about getting tints the other day. It was my understanding that you can have limo in the back 3 but a certain percentage has to get through the front 2. When I asked about Limo tint he said they will do it in the back, but he said you have no comeback on him if the police stop you and tell you to rip them out. What reason would te police have for making you rip them out? If thats the case then doesnt that make driving a van illegal?

he meant rippin out the front by the sounds of it, thats if u got the front 1's done limo aswell, the police can make u pull them off if u have it limo black but summtimes they dont bother, just dont attract attention2 urself if u do get them done, the back 3 are totslly legal 2 get done in any tint shade.
Spot on. Basically the police can demand you strip the tints from the glass if it doesn't let enough light in based on the percentages stated above. They should use a VLU (something something unit - can't remember what it stands for) to measure the amount of light that can pass through the glass, so possibly if they haven't got one with them you could refuse to remove the tints...ModifiedMadness wrote:Rear 3 windows can be painted if you want, the front 2 have to let in 70% of light and the windscreen can't be tinted at all.
Does anyone know what the visible light transmission % is on the slightly tinted windows we get on Polos straight from the VAG factory?Si_GTi wrote:Spot on. I'v never noticed this, i am gonna have a check later.
I wouldnt think there would be any tint watsoever from the factory, just clear glass. Cos whether its from the factory or done after market, its still a film the use to tint the windows, and there certainly wasnt a film on my glass before i got them tinted.

That's true, usually a slight green or brown tinted glass from factory (it's meant to offer some anti-glare properties).ModifiedMadness wrote:Some of them are tinted from the factory, it's not a tint film though it's the actual glass.
I think all of mine apart from the windscreen have TINTED on them.
The front can be tinted also on various vehicles as when I had my front windscreen replaced on my other car Autowindscreens asked me if it was tinted green/blue or brown and did it have a faded sunstrip on the top.

mine were all as clear as fook, so i got an 80% tint done on the back which is ok like but i shud of got the 70% but if i was 2do all my windows i wud do about 45/50% alround, and also if any of u guys have sunstripes like deep ones like mine, the police can tell u 2 rip them off weneva, but there usually ok on that coz u have 2 take them off 4 m.o.t, so they know there comin off, so they dnt botha with ppl.
