Query about the Polo GT (9n)

Post by speedsix »

Surprisingly, yesterday I saw THREE Polo GT's around Glasgow (albeit, one parked in my local VW dealership carpark). Anyway, I was just wondering, did the Polo GT ever come in petrol form? Im sure I read somewhere on the net that VW offered petrol versions of it in Europe-mainland.

Also, does anyone know how many Polo GT's were sold or are registered in the UK?

The Polo GT is only available as a 1.9 tdi engine. No idea how many were sold though!

Yeah the GT defo only ever came in a Diesel. Not too sure how many were made, but I'm sure they only did a limited number per year.

I have only ever seen one on the road, and that was in Wales when I was away for the weekend. Only ever seen one at car shows aswell, and that was Forge Motorsport's at Inters this year.

Ive got a relative with a flash red one. They are pretty rare, according to an old copy of volkswagen driver magazine only 450 for 2004 and 300 for 2005 were released.

I looked at one when I bought my 1.9 sport but I went for the sport as it had more toys on. I think a lot of the GT's that were sold weren't too highly specced (ie climatic/ESP etc). I think VW missed a trick, they could have put a 150hp Tdi in it, like the ibiza.. :?

The Ibiza is a PD160, different engine code :)

The new and improved Ibiza FR comes with the 1.8T and can easily be haggled down to £11k at the dealers.

Thats my car. I work for Forge so it sports a couple of small stickers on the doors.
I see the odd one around the motorways but they really are a rare beast. I looked at them when new but 15.5k for a Polo was rediculous money. I waited about a year and picked up an ex demo for a lot less. I traded in a Leon 150 for this as I think the 130 engine is much more responsive
