Over the past couple of days i have noticed a kind of ticking noise when driving. The noise seems more noticeable when pushing on the accelerator, it does sound like it's coming from the engine bay!
To add to this i'm in need of a new starter motor.....could this be the problem?
I've got this as well mate, comes on when accelerating from about 2000 - 3000 rpm?
I've had the cambelt done recently, the car still pulls like its brand new and its been to JBS and they've said its one of the best condition and strongest engines of the GTi's that have been thru there... couldnt find anything wrong with it!?
let me now if you get diagnosed anything different but it hasnt had any effect on the drive of mine??
I've not had it replaced whilst the car has been in my possession. It's just become louder on my way back from work. It sounds more like a train chooing! Imagine a steam train and the noise it makes....chu chu chu chu chu..... that's the sound (either that or like a tickin along with a catching/grinding noise)
I promise you all i'm not wearing a straight jacket it's just the best way to describe the sound!! haha
Seems silly but what fuel do you use? If its just normal unleaded then the engine is pinking and you'll cause a head gasket to blow between pistons. You must use super unleaded at least!

The car will run fine on regular unleaded mate, it just runs smoother and ever so slightly more efficiently on premium fuel
Get your cambelct and tensioners changed at the same time just for peace of mind.
If you leave it you'll end up bending the valves. This happened to a TT that went into my uncle's garage. It cost the guy an arm and a leg to sort it out. I think it was around the £2000 mark. But that was for everything as its just not the valves that bend you'll end up doing other damage to the engine.

I doubt its the same as what happened on mine but this sort of noise was happening but it was the timing belt casing was a bit lose and that was vibrating. Mine was most noticable when stationary though. But saying that mines a diesel and the engine probably drowned it out.
