i have that to under my car, i have seen my mate at the garage take it off, you`ll need to get them heavy machines to jack the car up, i did attempt to do it myself but the tray needs more space to come apart, it has 4 screws if i remember correctly
I'm sure they are held on with speed clips,(those round clips with the jaggy bit in the middle). There are also a couple of bolt head type screws aswell.
Once they are all off you need to pull the tray down at the back and slide it out towards the back of the car.

it says in the haynes manual for the 6n polo that they're there to reuce engine noise, in the 6n the 16v and diesel models have them, so i wouldn't be suprised if the 16v 6n2's have them also
I would leave it on personally as it stops a lot of the road cr*p hitting the bottom of the engine etc, I always noticed when I was changing the oil the bit of the exhaust covered by it looked brand new and the rest of the system was falling apart so it does offer some protection.

I agree. There is also some ducting which runs from pass side lower grille up to the gearbox, must be to keep it cool. Not sure you can still use it iwth the cover missing. Or if the same amount of air woud be directed straight at the box.
