When did your gearbox break? I'm really nervous about mine going :?
It finally let go about a week ago. However the signs were there. You hear a whining noise which is the first real sign that the bearing has broken.

I asked my uncle and bro if there is anyway of preventing it. My uncle says no there isn't. Its just a s**t design. The bearing has been ripped to shreads as can be seen from the pics. Luckily the magnet collected most of the fragments. I'm totally gutted.

The whining noise only was heard when i was slowing down in gear. NOT BREAKING. It is hard to explain but it was when i let go of the accelerator.

Was it a whining noise when it was in gear?

Have you mentioned to VW that this is a common problem?

 Well I usually use the family run-around when I was working during the week. Thats my car now. Only used the polo on the weekends really.

Usually parked next to my workplace, House Of Fraser.

I'll let u know if i'm going to sell the car as i'm seriously considering selling it now. But i can't get insured on anything else that I like.

I'd love to have your KW suspension if you do sell up!

Well i'm still deciding whether or not to recondition or put in a new gearbox that has been sourced by my bro and uncle. Difficult decision to make as the new gearbox is just over £1k.

I can get remanufactured ones from work, will have a look tommorrow for you. There done by vege (the uk's biggest and best engine/gearbox builder). There not rebuilt, but remanufactured, so every part is replaced whether it need be or not.

Excuse my mechanical ignorance, but what is the first pic of?

I assume what you are showing us is that the teeth are badly worn down in places and this is one of the causes of the failure?

No offense, but it is a shame the pictures are not clearer, so we can see exactly what the cause/wear is.
