xenons help!!

Post by way_z »

ok excuse me for invading in on the GTi section when mine isn't  but i got xenons and i am having real problems with level of the beam, they're just too high! I'm constantly being flashed at by oncoming drivers and had few incidents where cars that were in front of me would let me pass and then put their full beams on behind me!

i read in another post that there are some sensors in the back of the GTi which adjust the level of the beam automatically, if so where are they located? Im gonna go down to a breakers where they have a GTi breaking (only the shell left really!) but im hoping the sensors been left behind!

Also whats a ballast unit, its not the transformer box already underneath the headlamps is it? the other post also said something about VAG-COM, what is that? is it like diagnostics that u plug a laptop into the car or something? if so, where can i get this done??

i really need to sort this out as my parents just moved to essex and it seems the ford drivers there are not so appreciative of my lovely xenons! i shouldn't laugh should i?

As I understand it, the ballast is the grey box seen in this picture with the yellow sticker on it (which you are describing as the transformer box - you maybe right !):

Sorry I can't be of any more help as I don't know the location of the sensor, only that I have heard it is located on the rear axle.

I've had my xenon units out 3 or 4 times, and the light direction seems to be ok, maybe I am just lucky or maybe it IS the auto level sensor.

try disconnecting the battery for 20 mins & then when you turn the car back on see how they level out.
Also try doing it manually with a screwdriver in the top of the xenon
