Mk2 Bonnet problem Help please!!

Post by Gizmo »

Had a small problem involving my bonnet bursting open at 40mph.

Anyway now it wont shut. I think the hinges may be bent. I removed the bonnet and just placed it back in place.

If the hinges are bent how do I go about replacing them. I don't see anything in the manual about removing the bonnet hinges from the car and at the moment I can't get good enough access to look at the fitting.

Anyone got any advice please? :)

first try relining the bonnet up especially if youve removed it, you need to keep opening the bonnet loosening the bolts lining it up closing the bonnet so on till you get the gap between bonnet and both wings right, then i just used a peice of wood to flatten it an it bends the hinge back 9/10 times, try it, if you have any problems e-mail me ill give you my number an talk you through it,

Thanks

The bonnet seems to have shifted back towards the windscreen. It catches along the lip below the screen even when adjusted on the hinges. The left/right alignment seems ok. I caused some cosmetic damage to the bonnet when i tried to force it  not really that bothered though I just be happy to get the bugger to shut.

Seems to be about a half inch out of position judging by the front of the car. I'll give it another go in the morning.

EDIT:

Ok got them off. They're just held on by metal clips for future reference. Managed to hammer them back into some sort of shape over an old backbox.
