Wot temp!!

Right at the moment my cars doing strange things , had the thermostat done in a vw garage and now my car takes ages to warm up and when it does and i drive i can watch the temp gauge go down its as if its overcooling.

My temp needle used to always stay in the middle.

Wot i would like to no is

1) What temps do u guys normally run at?

2) What could cause my temp to yoyo up and down??

90 around town. Early morning in the winter, on the motorway, just about the lower mark (70?)

Overcooling could be caused by a dodgy thermostat, yes, or dodgy wiring in that system. Not sure what else, don't really know much about this part of the car.

I'd be inclined to take it back to the garage & tell them the problem. Could be a faulty thermostat even though it is 'new'.

same as everyone else - sits in the middle

if i see it going past that i just put the heaters on hot and blow the excess hot air out the window

dunno if this helps towards your problem but when i thought i had a faulty thermostat then it turned out to be something like the piston surrounding. the thermostat would start around half way but, then went down a little then constantly went up, especialy when the engine was under strain/getting hotter. I replaced so much to find the cure of the problem and in the end went to hayseldens (vw doncaster) & they told me it was a reccuring problem with Polo's that has causd loadsa people problems.

So sorry if it doesn't help you with this problem but thought it might help others

sounds like a coolant temp sender to me buddy. i work for a volkswagen specialist called VAGTECH. check out our website. hope this helps. coolant temp sender about Â£30 2 second job to fit.

i got the same problem it take a very long time for my engine to warm up and the temp needel is always under the 70 and if i leave me engine running for a 10-15mins the temp needel moves to the middel where it should be but when i start to drive it wil go all the way down under 70

and this makes my heater goes cooler which i find annoying as it been cold for the last few days.
