Strange ticking sound from wheels
Strange ticking sound from wheels
The last 2 days I've noticed a ticking sound coming from one of the drivers side wheels (Can't tell which). It sounds as if something is catching as when I drive faster the ticking gets faster...Also if I drive at about 3mph there is no ticking....
I quickly put my Polo up on jacks and couldn't see anything stuck in the tyres or anything catching on the alloys...Any ideas what this could be...Could it be a wheel bearing on it's way out?

Am I right in thinking if it's worse when I turn right then it's the left side bearing that's gone? If so it's a bit weird because the noise if definitely coming from the drivers side....jonnopolo wrote:Could be wheel bearing then. They always make more noise when the car is turning a corner/going round a bend.
I'm sure that's the way it goes. It's usually more of a knocking noise than ticking though.pootas wrote:Am I right in thinking if it's worse when I turn right then it's the left side bearing that's gone? This is definitely a ticking noise....I know it sounds stupid but it's as if someone has stuck a twig in my alloy.....But it's weird that when I drive slow I don't hear it.... I also just drove back from the gym and the noise wasn't there for bout 1/2 the journey then started again....Maybe I'll take the wheels off tomorrow and have a lookjonnopolo wrote:I'm sure that's the way it goes. I took it out for a drive this morning when the roads were quiet...The noise isn't apparent when driving in a straight line anymore but as soon as I turn a right hand bend I can hear it....Don't think it's the bearing as it's a ticking noise...If the rain ever stops I'll get the wheels off...I reckon it's coming from the front offside wheel but that's about as much as I can tell at the moment....psycho sport wrote:Had this problem. Took my wheels off and noticed wheel bolts done up too tight put them back on and hey presto all fixed!
