Yeeeaahhhhhhh

Post by clees »

Well i pick my car up tomorrow morning after it's operation.

It went in on Monday morning for gearbox bearings which were done successfully, however i recieved a phone call on Tuesday saying "your clutch is on its way out too".....(more money  )

I thought the best thing to do is to get it all done at the same time to avoid further problems!!

Total cost £520.00 cash!!

What do you guys think of the cost??

Glad to hear it will be ready soon.

I have not had to do mine (yet !!!), but the cost doesn't sound too bad, as you have also had the clutch replaced at the same time.

Fingers crossed it drives well and to your expectations when you pick it up.

We really need to create a sticky thread regarding peoples experiences with the gearbox, much like the cambelt tensioner thread e.g.

Mileage gearbox failed:
Signs/sounds of failure:
Re-con or new box fitted:
Garage used incl. contact details:
Cost incurred:

Are there any active mods. on this site to made a thread sticky if I create on for reference?????

You would have paid more than that for the clutch alone if you had used a main dealer. I'm getting my clutch done next week by a local specialist for about £250, must be the time of year for clutches :)

For my clutch on it's own it was £170 but i didn't get charged Vat cause i was paying cash.

I went to a garage that just dealt with tranmissions.

just a question since its in topic, if youre scheduled to change your clutch, would it be a good idea to get a nice reasonably priced clutch upgrade? e.g. black diamond performance clutch kits?

Yes im considering a uprated clutch replacement. I have seen 'Sach' clutches for £90 mentioned somewhere on this forum. I wonder if that includes all the bearings and pressure plate etc?

is the clutch kit the same for all mk5 models or does that depend on the engine code?

I'm fairly sure that they differ.
