GT radiator/bottom hose burst, where can I go to get new??

Post by minis84 »

Hey,

Basically, been having a few cooling issues with the GT recently. Replaced the black sender this morning, no joy. Temperature was up to about 95-98 degrees (on the gauge) on the way home. Thought I'd check for coolant pressure by removing the expansion tank cap immediately after stopping the engine - zero pressure.

Started it up with the cap off, and there was a nice dribble of coolant coming from the bottom hose area (although more evidence of coolant higher up, which makes me think radiator too) of the radiator. Its been running warm (90 degrees +) for a couple of weeks now, so I think this explains it, it also explains my random loss of coolant a couple of week back too. The car is running really well and there's no steam/mayo etc and hasn't actually overheated so the HG is fine IMO.

So, yeah, I need a rad and bottom hose (but will do the top hose too to be safe).

Where am I best to go? Would try GSF but after looking through their catalogue it appears they only do 1043 and 1272 SPi rads, not GT or G40 Can't find anywhere for the hoses, apart from VW (and guaranteed my local stealer won't have them in stock!). I need to get this job done on wednesday, so I need the parts for then.....can anyone help??

Thanks in advance!!

i had a hose go and the only place i could find was VW and they charged me £38 just for a hose bout 4 inches long with a joint in it.

best bet is either find a car being broken with low miliage or you'll have to just get raped by the steelers

Are they Gt specific?

Cos i've got a few spare hoses kicking around somewhere in the garage i think if they're any use?

The rad's specific, but www.buypartsby.co.uk do them cheap enough. Though the actual hosework is pretty generic across the range.
