I've had my car nearly a year now and it's due for a service and MOT. I bought it from an approved used vw dealer and it came with 12 months warranty.
Its got full vw service history, so i want to keep that up so just phoned my local dealer who said they'd need to look at the service book to see what service it needs. My cars done 72k so by the sounds of it, it will cost me £160. Does this sound right? Do different main dealers vary in price?

Yep, different dealers will vary in price a little bit in my experience. Try a few local dearships to see what price they give! As the local dealer stated, your service schedule is in the handbook so take a peek and see what it tells you - you will see when the filters and brake fluid were last changed for example. Should also indicate what the upcoming service will comprise of.

Well just dropped it off and they reckon i need a major service
The spark plugs were changed at 30k but the problem is i have a couple of services in the book which aren't stamped but i have a certificate you say they were vw services (strange i know), so i can't be sure they haven't been done before (although they think they wouldn't have been).
So it's an extra £80 for spark plugs, pollen filter and air filter. Told them not to bother as i can can change the plugs and air filter myself, and already changed the pollen filter in the summer.
Damn rip off!

Just had the dreaded call from the garage and my front brake pads need replacing
An extra £104 and they gotta keep the car til tomorrow now. Plus they said i need a brake fluid change.
So after i've spent just over £700 on the thing after tax, insurance, MOT and service this month, i've now got to do the brake fluid, spark plugs and air filter
