Dead pedal removal (56k warning, pics inside)

Been a quiet day so far, I got bored and decided to see if the dead pedal was easily removable in order to find out it's part number, and in turn see if I can get a replacement dead pedal that matches the TT alloy pedals...

For anyone who does not know, the dead pedal is the plastic foot-rest on the left of your clutch pedal, as seen in the pic below. Don't know about you lot but my size 10 CAT boots aren't slim enough to actually rest betwixt clutch and lower dashboard! You must need to have dainty girl's feet

There is a single screw that can be undone easily, but this is not enough to free the dead pedal and therefore remove and inspect it. Seems to be still secured somewhere near the lower centre dash there.

I'm after the part number, and whether or not there is a replacement alloy TT style cover to go in it's place. You can get them for the mk4 Golf...

I want to know the same thing Si, the TT pedals look real smart but then we're stuck with a horrible plastic dead pedal next to it

easy to remove, you just left a screw attached

(see bigger red circle)

actually part of the blue outline ive shown, I think you can remove it from this other piece once its out, buy I can't remember

part number will be printed on the back of it, once you remove it

Right well I took advantage of the sunshine and a day of work to have a go at this dead pedal...

First of all took the two screws out that inder has described:

Then removed the plastic dead pedal itself:

And then we can inspect the pedal once it is out of the footwell:

So we can now confirm some part numbers. Firstly the plastic attachment that joins to the dead pedal itself (in hte image above this is the bit sticking up at the top of the pedal:

Then finally and most importantly the dead pedal itself has a VW part number stamped on the underside of it:

Over to you inder (or anyone who has ETKA), could you please cross-reference that part number and find out if there is anything else like it? I might nip up to my dealer and investigate myself

Si, you say there's 2 parts to the dead pedal.

How does the other part attach to it?

OK, update time. First the bad news: there is no direct "off-the-shelf" alloy dead pedal replacement for the Polo GTi

but I think we all knew that would be the case.

Good news: I am going to make one anyway
