probably a silly question?

Post by shantybeater »

My mileage is 49000 & i'm still on my original cambelt, unable to sort this out until my next student loan comes in  and i'm sh***ing it about the belt going....

So my question is: what causes the belt to snap? is there any way of reducing the risk e.g. driving low revs? and is there no way of telling? i read the forum on cambelts of people complaining of tapping noises but I think mine does that anyway out of paranoia. Also the power loss? how often does it happen & how obvious is it?

i can understand your concerns - tbh i think vw reccomend changing it at 60k miles - thats what i did with mine, and havent experienced any cambelt issues. Can't really help you on advice of how to prolong the life of a cambelt. sorry
