Spraying grill badge.....

Post by jonPDpolo »

Right, have recently purchased a chrome badge on the cheap (£1!)(exactly the same as the one on the front of a mk5) with the intention of spraying it black (as I can't seem to find a black grill badge anywhere....(apparently you can't buy one anymore)

My question is will it need primer etc. before I spray paint it black?

Cheers guys

i sprayed mine and didnt use primer the first time, dont drive anywhere near a gritting lorry as you'll find your badge chipped and the chrome coming out. second time i used primer, seem to have done the job. make sure you roughen the chrome with a coarse sanding paper before you primer though.

As above really, use some wet and dry paper on the chrome to rough it up then give it a couple of coats of primer, then paint then maybe even some lacquer.

Mines gloss black too - just make sure you do lots of coats, I sanded it a little after the 2nd coat of primer as well just to make sure and its turned out perfect
