Newbie with some questions...

Post by vwdan »

Hi All
Recently got a Polo 1.4 TDI a few months ago (Y reg)
Really happy with the car. Better than my P reg clio previously!
In reflex silver. Would have liked black but I suppose silver hides the dirt pretty well lol not that I get my car really dirty or never clean it

I am on the look out for some alloys on eBay. I think the BBS would look ace on it and have seen several 15" ones on there.

I know a lot of you on here put bigger ones than that on yours but I am worried about affecting the speedo etc. A lot of people say it can make a big difference.

Sorry if Im sounding old. Just a bit new to all this kinda stuff! Am liking some of the pics you have all posted. I dont plan on modding mine but was mainly on the look for some alloys

Thanks

if you want 16's then just get 40 profile tyres and it will not affect your speedo.

Loads on here have 16's.

yea 15's should be fine on your car if you dont plan on lowering it or anything. i wudnt advise going above 16 inch wheels as it will make the handling rubbish and will look like its on stilts lol. go for some nice 15's :)

Cool yeah I have seen some pretty nice 15s around on eBay and I think there easily a safe bet. I keep thinking about upgrading my door speakers to. Have an alpine head unit which made quite a bit of difference from the standard beta one I had when I bought the car.

Also another random question. Why does the Polo get quite a bit of stick at times? Im happy with mine. Very cheap to run and goes quite well
I saw a video review on 4car and they just seem to slag it off. Mind you I dont think I ever seen a positive video review on there

people just don't know a good car when they see one

it gets a fair bit of stick due to its new prices and that its not AS well equiped as some other competitors making it seem over priced!

its gains back ground tho on its residual prices and its longetivity!! they are built to last!!

don't worry bout it mate, u've got a truely decent car, good torque and economy values! Tdi is the way to go

as for alloys, 16s look best when the car is slightly lowered but 15s will suit it at any height really! just don't go any bigger than 16s mate imo.

Yeh Im happy with it! Part of me thinks perhaps I should have waited and got a Golf but then again like you say its cheap to run and a nice little car to drive. Fairly pokey aswel I find especially compared to my dad's 1.5 dci renault

They do hold the value pretty well too like u say
I saw these on eBay and they looked pretty nice

How much would you say max to spend?

THey are nice, I have some as I have a GTI and they came on the car. Only slight problem is they are a little prone to corrosion, but they do look lovely when refurbed!

Yeah I see what you mean. There has been quite a few on eBay which are quite corroded. Those which I put a link to looked pretty pristine!

I had a look in Halfords and they didnt really have much to chose from

Im thinkin about upgrading the sound aswel. Have the Alpine headunit and was thinkin of some new speakers and tweeters to go in the doors.
I didnt really want to think of putting them in the parcel shelf. Not too fussed about a sub either, just a general good improvement on sound. What I have got in there as standard sounds pretty good but it could be improved.

Someone reccomended me some JBLs
I would prob get them fitted somewhere as I could imagine it being quite fiddly doing it myself

Have a bit more imagination mate other than GTI alloys. Unless you plan to make it look like a GTI. The 16" RXII's look much better than 15's tho.

If you go for 15's, go for something a bit dishy!

As for budget, well i have no clue what sorta budget you have and what you can afford. My next set of alloys with tyres may set me back the goods of £1k

But you could get a real nice set of 15" alloys within £500

Yeah I take it yours is the red one in your signature?
They are pretty nice! I dont plan on making it look like a GTI but I just thought they would easily suit the car.
When I was in Halfords I couldnt picture many of them on mine. You prob dont go to places like Halfords lol but I was there just in general the other day.

Yeh thjats mine in the sig. If you fancy a similar style, get in touch with rocco-jocco on clubpolo or edition38. He refurbs wheels to that type of style. and for VERY good prizes. £300 etc.

Yeh they will suit your car, but i wanna see something different than the usual. If you've got a few sets in mind, then post them up and we'll give our oppinion.

Yeh i go to halfords sometimes. Yeh i'm hugely into my dubs but i still take a keen interest in the rest of the moddin scene as i have mates who are on the dark side  I usually just go for wash products, or a general browse :)

Yeah cool I ended up buying a scraper, some de-icer and some screen wash from there lol cant complain at 3 for 2

I keep meaning to get a small vac aswell but in someways its prob just as easier to use one at a garage to give your car a quick once over inside.

Have to say you done a pretty neat job on your polo!! Saw the pics in your post
