Coilovers/Exhausts

Post by M666 BJW »

As a complete newbie to the Polo scene i have no idea which manufacturers are best for the GTI and am hoping you an help me.

Early next year i will be getting coilivers; i will not be slamming it as low as it will possibly go but will lower it so that it looks good whilst maintaining comfort.
So basically which coilovers are best for comfort? I am not too worried on price but will not pay the £1000+ for the KW ones  Been reading a lot about the FK ones but not heard much about the ones Weitec do but have had them recommended to me from a non Polo driver.

Also exhausts! I will be buying a manifold all the way back to backbox replacement. Which are the loudest? Which are the quietest? Has anyone got pictures of the different tip choices as well? Was thinking twin DTM ot just plain twin. I want the best performance over anything else and don't mind paying extra for it within reason

Any help and views would be appreciated

Hi dude, welcome to the forum! I have FK Highsport coilovers on mine, as do a few others on here. I personally think there very good, decent ride.

Im looking to put a manifold on mine, someone on the clubpolo forum sells them at a reasonable price. As for exhaust theres not that many manufacturers that do a decent design, your better off going to an exhuast specialist and having one "custom made"

Welcome to the forum :)

I've settled for FK coilovers too, the konigsports. They are both height and ride adjustable so should provide that extra degree of comfort over a cheaper kit. I find out next weekend

KW coilovers are expensive but there is a reason for why: they are the best (IMHO) 8)

There are not a lot of off-the-shelf exhaust systems for you to choose from simply because of the limited number of Polos that were sold in the UK (~3000). So no Milltek system, sadly :(

I've got a Powerflow with a hidden tip just like the standard system. It is louder than standard but in my opinion not too obtrusive.

Cheers

Thats what i'm running but Variant 2's. Ride quality is excellent.

Cheers for the replies

What are the differences between the KW coilovers and the Weitec ones though? They are both made by the same people but the Weitec ones are cheaper...but have no idea what the key differences are :?

The difference between Weitec and KW relates to quality of materials and manufacturing.

I have heard that the Weitecs can be very hard if you have anything more than subtle lowering, even with the damping adjusted. The KW V2's use Koni inserts, whereas the Weitec's don't, they are probably manufactured in house or use a different cheaper brand that are revalved. Also the KW's bodies are stainless steel, the Weitecs are zinc plated.

I had weitec coilovers on my old 6n polo and the ride was terrible, so harsh and hard, it felt like i had solid struts instead of springs. I personally wouldn't advise them

Then the Weitec's are off the list; thanks for the help guys :D Just need to find the best price for some FK's now and decide just how much lower i want to go.

How much lower have most people go?

the usual i'd say is round about 60-80m which gives a mix of style and comfort.

I measured the gap in the arches and there seems plenty of space....the only problem i can see is the splitter clearance at the front and goin over speed bumps with it
I've had a look at a few onlne stores fro FK Konigsports and the cheapest i can find is just over £650 inc delivery. So i'm hoping a few local car shops sell them cheaper.

If your budget is in that kind of area, I would opt for Koni coilovers over FK's.
