My Alloys have been scratched by a tyre fitter

Post by des_pd_ tdi »

I paid in advance for Servicing and tyres maintenance when I took delivery of my car from Volkswagen.

The time has come to change the front tyres but VW will not put back on the Bridgestone tyres the car came with. Instead they recommend Continental  . I was never told this when I took out this servicing plan.

So I popped down to the tyre fitters that VW recommended and asked them to put on two new continentals on the front rims and the swap the rims around so the newer tyres are at the rear of the car. The guy took absolutely ages (1.2 hours) and because this was my lunch break I didn't have time to even check the Alloys and Tyres until I returned back to work. The result, scratches all over the edge of both Alloys, I immediately phoned up the tyre company and complained, he now wants to look at my car and he will get his manager involved, I'm also going to contact VW and have a moan at them as they recommended this particular tyre fitter.

I'm ANNOYED to say the least.

Where do I really stand?

i'd guess they'll ask you to prove that the scratches were done by them :?

How the hell can they refuse to put what was FACTORY fitted onto the car  It's bad enough they scrathed your wheels

Complain VW cusomter service, then ask to speak to the dealer principal. As soon as VW get a complaint about a dealer they're on the phone usually straight away, therefore they should be more willing to sort the problem out.

Good luck.

Ok, 'National Tyres' are now going to refurbish my Alloys for free, they admitted they'd done it as soon as they saw the scratches, only a tyre fitting machine could produce the type of scratches I had on my Alloys.

VW were useless in this matter so I like to say a big THANKYOU to VWUK for absolutely BOG all.

Finally my alloys have now been refurbished but they'll never be the same.

Basically the scratches were sanded out and visually you could not tell the wheel has actually been repaired. However, if you compare the rear Alloys (refurb) by touch to the fronts (undamaged) then they do not have the polished finish of the originals.

Looks like I'm going to have to break out the Zymol Concours and give them 3 or 4 coats of wax.

The tyre fitters coughed up the dough for this £110+vat for two alloys.

This happened to me, twice. Once by a independent fitter (big chain, you know 'em) and once by VW. Especially with the R10's, you wouldn't really see it if you'd look at the single wheel, but if compared to the others there's a difference. Sad, really.
