You may find that the mileage is held within the memory of clocks themselves. I had new clocks fitted and the mileage was corrected while the clocks were out of the car.

The mileage is stored in the clocks themselfs mine packed up at 55k and the delaer put a new set in and they went back to 0, they said the new cars have the mileage on the ECU but not the MK4 Polo. VW can't set the mileage however you can go to a 3rd party company that can change the mileage.

ive just been to my local dealer, of which i have got a friend thats in the parts department, which informed me that on the 6n2 the odometer is stored in the clocks memory and not the ecu. i was also informed that you cant recode the clocks twice you have to get a new unit and have the keys recoded and the immobiliser so looking at about 250 quid. lol so dont think i will be doing this modification.
