BOOT SENSOR

Post by 1 GTI »

The light for my boot is lit up on my dash. The boot is closed properly. I've opened and closed it and then it goes off. I'll start driving and within 5seconds it fades back on. I've sprayed some WD40 all over the lock and it done nothing for me. I think it's my sensor gone. Anybody know where the boot sensor is? Knowing my luck it's in the lock, and i'll have to have a new one of those.

If you take the boot trim off theres loads of wires that go to the handle and a couple to the latch. I'm pretty sure it'd be the one to the latch else how would it tell!

Looking on ETKA, it list microswitch, part no 6X0 947 569 and is situated in the latch. There's also a bit of wiring loom going to it, which may be your problem. Part no. 1J6 953 230 A

Hope this helps!

boot light

Post by farnster »

hi
i had this problem but it is a easy fix. first of all the microswitch in the lock mech would have probably failed due to corrosion from your leaking rear wash wiper union. vw introduced a mod in the form of a mini jubilee clip to tighten the joint which i was given free by my friendly vag parts man. this should stop it from leaking againt. spray contacts with wd try this first it might be ok if the corrosion isn't to bad.

if still broke...

replace the switch. you will need to remove the lock mech this is held on by two multi splined screws (the same tool used to strip bbs split rims) seen at link

http://www.partridges.uk.com/catalog/pr ... cts_id=929

once mech removed pull the locking arm out and disconect the three pin plug

the the microswitch is about £8

the whole lock mech (inc switch) is £24 but ask for discount cos this only costs vw about £14 to buy

i changed the whole lock mech now my boot light works and the boot light indicator has stopped flickering

hope this helps

hi there!, ive got the exact same problem!!!...the boot indicator has just appeared now!!. however mine doesnt come on then off...it remains on, and when the boot is actually open it becomes brighter..when i shut the boot, it goes dimmer. is that the same problem, this microswitch thing...also, what sort of tools do i need to get to it...would a screw driver do..

sounds like the same problem. take off the plastic trim off first and secure the rear wash wipe hose with one the those jubliee clips. once it has dryed out this might fix it!!!

dont bother using a screwdriver to remove the mech its pointless just get hold of one of the multi splined tools they come in very useful.

yes its probably linked with the alarm triggering off because it was showing an open circuit. with the boot lock.

hi naz
just checking you checked the rear wash wiper union was secure. If liquid is shorting the switch the fault may go away when dry. just take the 2 star shaped screws(T25?) in the recesses in the pastic boot trim and pull it off. if you have already checked it i'll shut up

cheers farnster

Does anybody know where I would get this microswitch other than from a VW dealer?

Scrapyard! Or just repair the microswitch as it is only a basic slide switch!
