Holy crap that is a sexy engine bay. And the noise, it's beautiful. How much would throttle bodies and a full exhaust and manifold system set you back...1k?mk4 glx 1.6 wrote:If I wanted a fair bit more power I would go with throttle bodies.
A Lupo Gti owner has done this and it is most impressive !
And the noise!

But i'd never consider it on a car with this gearbox. [/i]

You then got to find someone to wire it all up and rolling road tune it. If its who i'm thinking of he has 167bhp, on standard cams, ported and polished with four branch and race exhaust.
This guy?
If you can get your car to 800kgs, and 160bhp, it should be good for sub 6 sec 0-60's in theory. This is my intention with the fibreglass front end, a bit more stripping and i reckon 850kgs is achievable.
BMC, exhaust, manifold, de-cat, cams, chip and port/polishing should take it to around 160bhp. But i hopefully have a g lader coming along to add that little bit more. I reckon 200+bhp is achievable on a standard throttle body. Its just the g/box thats a major concern.

The only boxes that will mount to the engine are polo/lupo/arosa petrol ones as far as i can work out. The box appears to be the same as even the mk2 polo ones, albeit they have cable change not rod. This is where the problem is. The box isnt designed for the power and torque the engine produces and therefore the bearings go.
The only solution appears to be what i was going to do, but seemed a little expensive to be feasable, that was to change both the engine and box for the lupo gti setup, which uses the 020 box, similar to that of a mk2/3 golf. If that box can put up with a g60 or vr6 i'm sure it can take a 1.6! The only major problems being changing the gearbox mounts (welding probably needed) and changing the clutch to hydraulic operation. I would have done this conversion had a 6 speed been available, but i can only find a 5 speed lupo engine and box combo for sale at sensible money, and it didnt seem worth the effort for that!
