Given the alarming number of gearbox failures over the last six to twelve months it would be useful to pull some information together for reference?

If you have had a replacement gearbox, please copy and paste the form below, filling in your details as applicable. Remember, this is a public forum so please don't post such information as your vehicle's chassis number or registration!

Also, please don't fill this thread with pages of off-topic chat or spam. I will be policing the content to keep it on-topic ;)

Please don't bother using Ace Gearboxes LTD.

I've just had news my old Polo GTi box has now been knackered again...and only after about 4,000 miles after a "rebuild"

Just a heads up, that's all.

2001 polo GTI
54,000 miles
December 2007

Gearbox completely rebuilt with new bearings. Diff rivets were replaced. New clutch fitted.

Nicol Tranmission services kidderminster. (Be warned...they dont accept credit cards!)
[Good friendly, fast service, recomended by several people including me!]

£460 for gearbox rebuild
£120 clutch kit

First rebuild was done by another company and they forgot to put oil in it. (Yeah I know)

Second rebuild has been alright, it's still not great and it seems to get worse once it gets warmer. I've had the clutch replaced as well.
