VW Service History
Is it important?
My service is due in the next 1000 miles, just phoned up my local VW dealership and they want £210 !!! Just for the oil change and inspection!!!
My car currently has full VW service history, and the cambelt done at a specialist.
What should i do? My car also needs a breakfuild change aswell meaning thats £289 inc vat WOW

i'd stick with it mate, they are expensive but my local dealership has been really fair to me & on top of that keeping the service history with VW will keep the value of the car better. Is it the 60k or 80k service? I went in to get this done and they also change parts like the pollun filter for the air con & others. Ask them for more details
If you can't afford it though then its not an option, and im biased because I don't know any good garages around so trying to be safe...I have enough problems with the damn thing already..

Personally I'd try and find the money if you can, I think it's always worth trying to keep a full service history on a VW - I would have to think long & hard about buying one without it.
You could be cheeky & phone around a couple of VW garages in your area to see if they'll price match - might end up getting a few quid knocked off?

yeah thats the intermediary service, they chance certain filters..oil & other "essential" stuff. I'd do it mate, last time I went to the stealers I was £700 down for the cambelt change & that service. I only bought the car a week before which was apparently fully serviced but if anything goes wrong you can fall back on them. My car had a fault and they spent the whole day working on it and charged me £60 for the part because I had paid for it to be fixed a week before (they hadn't found the cause). Its just a safe bet

Agreed. From personal experience just because it's been done at a VW Dealership does not give any guarantee of quality workmanship.omicron wrote:Find a good independant garage. You'll still have a FSH, so it won't knock anything like the price difference of the value of your car.

Last time they over filled my oil. I took it back and made them take some outvr6south wrote:Why pay VW prices for a basic service when they may get an apprentice "chimp" to do it. I use an independant ex main dealer technician and would not trust anyone else. Main dealer service doesn't guarantee quality.

Hi guys, I have to say that I would rather use a mechanic mate from work. However, saying that, my other half made me get mine done at the vw dealer across the road, to keep fvwsh. My service was £30 for labour plus £15 for parts
....but I got a good discount because I used to work in the bodyshop there... and I made them price match their "sister" garage, who would have done the service for £50 all in. Its always worth trying a specialist or getting your dealer to price match..... considering the costs and the fact that they usually get muppets to do it, who then race the car on the test drive!!!!!!
