I waited around 5 months to find a good one, but it was "only" 100 miles away

i got a s**t, but it still kicks ass on other cars

tbh u cant compare a 4/5/6 year old car with a car thats been on the road 18 months etc of course they will be dated and look expensive

hi mate :) there are a few piccies on the auto trader link ;) and wot spec do u want to know ?

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/CA ... 4267755077

my car is right under your buget then :)

seriously tho, even if you dont want to buy my car, get a polo gti :) they r spot on cars, ive literally had no problems with mine and it has alot of miles but will still last a very long time, vdubs tend to :D and wen they are cared for the are great.

they r comfortable and u have lots of lil nice touches with them, and are fast for wot they are :) but quite cheap to which is good, im only 19 and have one so it kinda shows it.

am i talkin crap, i get carried away and type essays lol sorry

The Polo GTi excellent all round car which is still great looking however for the same money you can get a tidy Clio 172 that has exactly the same kit as the Polo. It would be a tough call for me between the two if I was to buy one now purley down to the stupid gearbox problems that VW should be shot for.

i was after one ever since my mate turned up at my house 6 years ago in his brand new silver GTi. I bought a black one last November from a garage in Reading (about 45 miles from Swindon) on a W plate with 49,000 with service history etc for £4495 and I absolutely love it to bits.

I totally recommend them and the only thing i've had to have done is the motor replaced for passenger window but got that done thru warranty so only had to pay £40 for the diagnosis.

DO IT :)

had a couple of small niggling issues - nothing major though - currently waiting on the gearbox going pop - but dont let that put you off - there isnt much more that'll majorly go wrong with it aside of that.
Solidly built only problem with them in my opinion is the corroding alloys and the gearbox - but as every Gti owner will tell you - it's definately worth it, once you get to around 4k revs when the VVTI kicks in.

Go for it - best car i have ever owned - love it.

p.s. silver is best 8)

hey guys really appreciate all the comments of advice and encouragement.

check this one out??
it does sound a bit too good to be true... i mean its only done 19k!!!
do u think it could have bn clocked?? but its from a trader (not private) and it says its had a hpi check n stuff! in the picks it looks really clean, inside and out.

Manual, 19,000 miles, Flame Red, ABS, Climate control, BBS Alloy wheels, Body coloured bumpers, Alarm/Immobiliser, Remote Central Locking, Twin airbags, Stereo, 6 disc CD Changer, Electric Windows, Electric Mirrors, Xenon lights, Headlamp washer, HPI Clear, NMR Check, Full VW Service History, Tax until July '07, MOT until July '07, Spotless Inside and Out!!. £5,450

also if i try and offer cash or bankers draft he might let me walk away with it for £5000. what do u guy think??

That's a good point too. 172's go for pennies and one guy I know can get 40+ MPG!

wouldnt worry about mileage too much. as long as the documents back it up then your fine. i bought my car 7 months ago and bearly done 2500miles since. condition will say it all. if its a spanker then go for it.
