Hello David, welcome to the forum

Creaking suspension is a problem all 9n owners seem to experience (including me!) Anti-roll bar bushes were my first guess. But I now believe its the large Transmission bracket that is centre-underneath the vehicle. The one that sorta looks like a mini Tennis racket (!)

On my car it only seems to make the noise when braking to a halt or downshifting at low speeds, is this a similar case on your car?

I'd advise you get your dealer to investigate this

Cheers

Hello David, and as Nelson_Wilbury has said, welcome to the forum! 8)

Can't offer much advice on this topic as my VW suspension is long gone!
There are quite a few people with this creaking - but I don't think anyone has had the problem fixed (?). I'm sure they'll comment shortly....

Where abouts are you from?

Cheers

Niel ..sounds like similar circumstances..ie under braking, sometimes over speed humps...will get the dealer to look at the racket!

I've had this problem on my car since I bought it. Taken it into 3 seperate VW dealers and they say there isn't a problem. One dealer even admitted to me that he has this problem on his own Polo.

I mainly get the creakeeeeeness when driving over speed humps or turning into corners, mind you it dosn't upset the handling though.

I have the problem on my TDi Sport, I've driven 1.2e and 1.4S Automatic loan car from VW and they both had the same problem. I've given up on the noises to be honest and just decided to put up with it, (as have most people on here) crank up the stereo and worry about something else.

If you have any joy please let me know, the dealers in my area are loath to help, even VW UK are no help, I've tried them twice. :(

I say we start a petition to get KW suspension fitted to all of our 9n's!

I have the same problem in my Polo. The dealer told me it was usual in all new Polos and that there were no problems with it. My usual mechanic also told me there was no problem, so I'm living with it :(

I have had the very same problem ever since I got my car 12 months ago. I have noticed that the creaking occurs at the front wheels on the upward motion when going over a speed bump and occurs again when coming off and then tails off once your back wheels are off the bump. However I have also noticed that the creaking does not always occur. Chances are that when you take your car to the garage they do not come across your car on one of its "creaky days".
This is topical as my car is in the garage at the moment for this very reason (among others). The thing is this has been an ongoing problem because they haven't been able to fix it the last 2 times and the 1.2 Polo Twist loan car has the same problem so things do not look too good. Its not a major problem......at least the suspensions do the job but for a car that is so new its not somthing that reflects well on its build quality and just isn't expected. As the car is under warranty getting it fixed is "easier" but it's never fixed. I would imagine it would be seen as a bigger problem had the car not been under warranty.
If this problem continues a nice set of Eibachs with my name on them are waiting in the wings. It would be nice to corner without the fear of cartwheeling. (Which is another thing I have noticed about the original VW suspensions)
The other problem with the 9N's suspension is that it makes the car ride too high which at high speeds (Where the law permits) makes the car is unsettled. Good for farm work though :D

But remember your car is under warranty and that doesnt come cheap as it is incorperated into the price of the car when u buy it. You do have the right to get it looked at and don't feel you have to put up with it. On a lighter note giving you car in gives people like my brother somthing to do instead of lazing about the garage talking about Corrie :D

To be honest the amount of creaking coming from my suspension has almost compeltely stopped since I fitted Eibach springs. It still comes back to haunt once in a while. But otherwise its almost gone.

What is annoying is that recently every bump now transmits straight through the dashboard :( Reckon something is wrong, but its a bit unusual to have bushes (especially top mounts and track control arm) go at only 25,000 miles
