Meaty! Nice, does fill out the wheel nicely...wish I hadn't replaced mine with the standard pads and discs now...will be another couple of years before I'll need to change them...pants!

My 280mm discs are en-route from VAG Parts at the minute.

Can't wait to get them fitted, stopping only with will-power at the minute.

Not at all, but yes not much clearance would hate to get a stone jammed in there

Yeah planning to. Discs and pads arrived today so should hopefully be getting them done sometime soon.

You will need a large breaker bar to get the old carriers off mind. Good luck

Cheers mate. I'll just 'borrow' the breaker bar my Dad uses for working on the Land Rover.

Do the GTI brakes as standard honestly need upgraded or are they totally fine as they are? If so, i take it this is for the pimp factor?? 8)
No at all. Standard GTi brakes are crap. The upgrade improves braking greatly, just the way it should of been in the first place. honest
I have to agree. The standard ones aren't very good, they're better than the ones I had on my MK4 though. I drove my mum's 06 Ford Focus and the breakes in that were far better (as you'd expect though really as it's nearly new)
Im amazed most peoples opinion is that the standard 256mm brakes arn't up to the job

I also think alot of people say this, when there braking materials are shot and the brake fluid is old and never changed

I did a trackday in my mk4 which is a fair bit nippier than a gti, and as regards pure breaking power they are totally fine I think,

however I will be changing to a 280mm setup, not because I want more braking power, just to overcome the fact that the 256s overheat, which should no way be a problem if the car is to be used on the road

So what did the caliper carriers set you back?? If you don't mind me asking!!

My standard exhaust is just about to fall off, so I've got to get an exhaust first (time for an upgrade Wahoo!!), but will do the brake upgrade straight after!!
