My mate just bought a 54 plate Ibiza cupra petrol. Does anyone know the stats for this car? I know this is a stupid question but do you think the GTi will have a chance? lol. I know the Cupra has 1.8T 20V engine producing 156BHP... I think. Let me know what you all think. Cheers

I thought the 20v cupra was 177bhp?
I think the bhp you quoted was for the diesel
either way the both have a 0-60 that beat the polo gti

I've driven the 177bhp version. It's a cracking car. Shame the interior isn't up to Polo standards, but it has cool dials and looks good on the exterior

It's a 180bhp 1.8T, mated to a 5 speed box.

SEAT Ibiza 20v turbo Cupra - 156bhp
0 - 60mph - 7.6 sec.
SEAT Ibiza 20v turbo Cupra R - 180bhp
0 - 60mph - 7.0 sec.
I work with a lad who has the 156bhp Cupra & it sees off my GTi no problem. Nice car but the Polo looks better.

That's correct, any Ibiza Cupra should see off a Polo GTI

all i want to know is why vw dont put those engines in the polo, but put it in the latino polo, you have to love the spanish guys for slapping a big engine like this in such a small car!

Because VW don't want to lose sales from the Golf by sticking a powerful engine in the little Polo - this is why the new Polo GTi Turbo only makes 150bhp...

yeh you got to remember the polo is meant to be the golfs 'little sister' so they will never make it faster/better than it.

But they're getting beaten by Vauxhall now with the Corsa VXR.
They need to up the R32 to 300bhp, Golf GTi to 250bhp and Polo GTi to 200bhp.
That will do nicely
