automotive nitromors wont strip my alloys,help!

want to strip my vw castelletes.brought some nitromors and all it did was take the paint off between the spokes,wont touch the face of the wheel which is lacquered.whats going on?
applied it four times,used half a tin on one wheel and nothing!
thinking of going with some 180 grade wet and dry but will take me ages,want the polished look!
any other ideas apart from,acid dipping them or bead blasting?
