Hey people, has anyone had a problem with the temperature needle on the dash? Mine quite often drops to 0 when driving and then when the engine is revved harder it shoots back to halfway Anyone know what the problem could be or how to fix it? Any help would be much appreciated!
Could be the thermostat is jammed open or a dogey temp sensor. I would change the sensor first as its cheap enough, the thermostat isn't that expensive either but more pain to replace.
I had a feeling it could be the sensor. I have no idea though where its located. I really need a Haynes manual for the car (which I no they don't do), it would make car maintenance so much easier!
Does anyone have any e-manuals etc.......

Guys, I really want to carry out the work myself but have no idea where the temp sensor is located? Does anyone have a picture or can describe in detail where it is? Also, does anyone know the part no. and how much it will cost? So many questions!
120% temperature sensor. It's on the left hand side of the engine (passenger side) it's a got a green cover on the sensor, you can't miss it. It's with a cluster of sensors going into the side of the engine. Hope this helps
yep its green and its next to 2 other sensors. there is a horse shoe clip holding the sensor in place. when you replace it make sure your engine is cold and be prepared to lode a lot of coolant
Sorry for the late reply, been away with work.
I replaced the sensor last weekend and now the temperature needle works fine. I would suggest for anyone else attempting this, have a mate on hand. Getting the sensor out is easy, but pushing the new one back in and getting it alligned correctly was hard work on my fingers! You will need someone to help push the plastic clip in place. Cheers for the replies guys, it has saved me a few bob down the stealers.....
I would be inclined to think that - the fact it doesnt hit 70 suggest the temp sender is definately dead! If it wasnt hitting 90 thats a bit different, but as its not moving at all, id say yes certainly!
Yup it can have an effect on petrol consumption. If im right, the engine controls the airflow fuel and whatnot depending on the temperature of the engine - its an easy fix. A saturday morning task easily
