40k service

Post by Mouse_GTI »

My car is booked in to my local VW specialist at the end of the month for a Service and MOT. How much will a 40k service cost roughly, keeping in mind I'll need the cambelt/water pump replaced, oil change, probably new brake pads/fluid, air con regassed and my Xenons looked at.

I was quoted nearly £600 for service and cambelt at my nearest dealer - so I went to my usual garage which is a vag specialist instead for a lot less.

My 60k one was done at VW (so more expensive) but I had pretty much what you said about (Cambelt, Water Pump, Tensioners, Discs & Pads, Oil Change and Brake Fluid Change) and it was over £500.

Somehwere around £7-800 for the service I think with the cambelt etc and £200 odd for the brakes I think.

My cambelt/tensioners/waterpump change was £320, 40k service was £147 as it includes changing the spark plugs, brake fluid change was £35 all from a VW dealer. The VW specialists I tried quoted give or take the same price and were further away so went with the dealer

I got the brake fluid done after I put the G60 brakes on and it sharpended them up nicely. If you just need to change the pads I would do them yourself it is very easy to do probaly save yourself £30-50 even from a specialist.

I would have thought if its all at the one time it should be around the £500 mark assuming the Xenons don't require any parts.

Just had 60k service done, cambelt, tensioners, water pump & brake fluid
change for £550 ( £340 cambelt etc.. , £210 service) from VW stealer.

The front discs & pad wanted changing as they were 90% worn & the rears needed cleaning up as they were binding. That would be an extra £130 + VAT. :(

Decined their offer & bought 280mm G60 front discs, new pads & discs, pads for the rear for £150, some carriers off a friend for £20 & fitted them myself.

Just bedding them in now :D
