Newbie buying advice, how does this look.

Post by rabbit82 »

Hi peeps.
Ive been looking for a polo GTI for some time now as i dont have a car (having written off my beloved Subaru impreza!). Ive seen about 9 in the past 2 weeks and they have all been in very bad nick. Im going to see this one this week, how does it look to you guys?

To me its not only the car, its the owner. I dont like to judge but im hesitant buying from a boy racer that tells me "its a bad boy car innit bruv?" haha. The owner of this car sounds mature and quite a decent guy so thats a good sign but im going to travel over 150 miles to see it and will be dissappointed if its not the one. Can someone help and tell me what to look out for.

I know the gearbox can be a bit of a problem but this one has it recondiotned and has a warrnty on it.

Thats a tidy car, I had to travel 138 miles for mine after looking at couple of dodgey ones, so nothing unsual there.

I would go have a look at that one, if I where you.

Good luck

It's a really nice car and a good price too. Scratches will always polish out and the dent should be fixable

looks quite slick actually. But beware alot of guys who have had theyre gearboxes reconditioned, they have messed up after a while
some guy had something like 3 gearboxes in 4k miles

You got 7 months warranty with that one i suppose tho

Yeh thats olop_chris off of this forum. His car looks totally mint, and i'm pretty sure he looks after it.

I dont think you'll be too disappointed when you see this one!

it is but as i remember he said it still has 7 months running on the warranty, so it should get replaced for free - dont quote me on that, but thats as i recall - worth asking anyway

yes you're right mate but id still have the hassle of paying someone to take the box out, waiting for the company to collect the box, fix it, give it back then me getting it fitted again only to find that i have to repeat the process a few weeks later.

Im after a car as i havnt got one at the moment, so its pointless buying one that's going to end up straight in the garage as soon as ive got it.
