Clutch went today, need some advice fast....

Post by LiverpoloGTi »

Hi,
My clutch ground to a halt today  , luckily it got me home before totally packing in (i'm trying hard to find something positive to focus on).

So after 41902 miles ill shortly be on clutch number 2. VW quoted me £572 for a replacement  but the garage near my house will do it for around £275).

I dont want to replace the clutch with another OE one so have been trying to research superior alternatives (without too much luck). Ive read some posts on here about Sach clutch kits and found a little info elsewhere about Black Diamond kits.
The mechanic suggested that the OE clutch would be fine, but who wants 'fine' if there is something 'great' out there?

So I just wanted to ask you all which clutch you would buy if yours went tomorrow?
And how much difference (if any) sports clutches make compared with the OEM ones.

Id be grateful for any (useful) info before I ask the mechanic to order my replacement clutch.

I used a valeo on mine, and its fine as far as a clutch goes. Dont really understand why you'd want an uprated clutch unless you race. Who wants a jerky ride round town?

vdubit, tbh I hadnt really considered any impact on ride quality, I just thought that if my OEM clutch was knackered after 40k then it wasn't up to the job. I just wanted to ensure that I can push my car to it's limit without having to worry too much about having to replace another clutch in the not too distant future.

Will the ride quality really be much jerkier? (could somebody with an uprated clutch qualify this for me?)
