The exciting world of Polo radiators...

Post by retro »

I know a discussion about VW radiators isn't exactly going to ignite many peoples passion, but I'm hoping someone on here has an unnaturally good knowledge of the subject.

My GT has decided to amuse itself by peeing away all it's coolant. I've patched it up, but I dont expect it will last much longer.

My question is, does the GT share it's radiator with other cars? I vaguely remember that the one on my old 1-litre looked narrower (same width as the fan cowling maybe?), but I could be wrong. I'm hoping that some of the newer Polos will have the same radiator, so I can find a decent one in a scrapper.

If the rad is unique to the GT, I guess they'd be hard to find, so I'll just hope the one I have holds out until I have the cash for a new one.

Cheers!

the same thing happened to me just before christmas...

GSF carry the GT radiators in stock, mine was about £56 with the VAT.

I wasn't too sure about the compatibility, although it appears the 1272 engines (except for the G40) all share the same radiator.

I believe the 1043cc ones are slightly different.

I'm pretty sure the radiator is GT/G40 specific, they are longer in width.

GT and G40 radiator are the same.
They are the same size as other mk3 petrol rads, except they have enlarged end tanks and more core pipes for greater cooling.

Ok, so it's a specific GT / G40 radiator that I need.

I'm glad I asked, Europarts just list one radiator as fitting all the mk3 engines. I don't want to end up with one that's not up to the job.

I'll give GSF a try and see what the have.

Cheers.
