What reg is it on? Problems vary between the earlier and later ones.

As for value, like any old car, it's worth what someone's prepared to pay for it. I paid £120 for mine without MOT, there's a bloke on Club Polo with a slightly crusty one trying to get £1200

Just brought a car for my lil-bro same as your's except its got FSH & 44K on the clock. didn'y pay anywhere near 400 notes for it. - I would have happily paid £600-700 as it is in mint condition - and i mean floorless.

MK2's are not worth a huge amount of money, MK1s maybe, MK3s - if they are the G40/G60(i think)..

As dirty previously mentioned, problems vary car to car, but I would just do the regular, check for previous welding on sills / arches, holes & rust in sills & arches, check for loose tappets, when last cambelt change was etc etc
