Heater flap control motor | Ticking noise behide dash

Post by Gavin »

Hi guys,

I have that TICKING noise behide the dash board (Polo GTI, Y Reg) and also its takes ages for my windscreen to de-mist

I found a few posts relating to this and its a comman problem - fault being with the heater flap control motor (not sure what the exact name for this is??)

Can anyone tell me

1) if this can be done myself instead of taking it to a dealer or other mechanic who has no idea of what they are doing (as they are saying its a rare fault and not sure how long or how much it would cost :( )

2) the exact name and part number if anyone has had this replaced

many thanks

Gavin!

I've had this ticking noise behind my dash aswell. Its starting to really annoy me now. It's comes and goes though, not constantly there. It's mostly on the passenger side and middle of the dash. Anybody know what it is please?

Sometimes it's something to do with the heating. I remember in my old Fiesta if the heater was set above the middle temperature setting, it would make a "tick" every 5 seconds or so

I found the ticking noise in my car to under the air filter. As you go under the bonnet and remove the air filter, you will see an air vent for the heater and there is a flap which directs the air flow. on my car that is the problem. :?

I posted a topic up about this quite a while ago! I ended up taking it too single man garage who my uncle is a mate of. Anyways, he knew exactly what the problem was and sorted it for me.......but was quite pricey!

Basically, you need a new flap motor unit and to replace it the Dash has to come out of the car, so labour is like 2-3 hours or more. If i remember correctly the part is close to £80 alone!

Bloody VW prices. If you really need to know the part number then i might be able to find it! Think that there's 2 units next to each other though behind the dash, so you have to get to them first and identify which one is cause of the annoying tick!

Hope this helps!
