recycled air problems

Heres a puzzler!.Every time i press my recycled air button in my mk6 polo , the light goes on, the fan speed changes (which i think is normal).then it switches off.The button does not work then for a minute or so.I am also making sure that the blow direction is not facing the windscreen. Also when i put my car into reverse, the fan speed changes ( could these be connected????).Please help me , thanks

The re-circ mode will switch on automatically when in reverse to stop fumes being sucked into the car as you reverse over them...not sure about the button not working though.
