I've just filled my car up with BP Ultimate Diesel and I noticed the pump Diesel delivery was really........... slow so it took 4/5 minutes to fill up.
To my amazement I managed to spend £43 on Diesel which amounted to 51.32 litres of Diesel. The most I've ever managed before is £28 pounds and 37 litres, so why the massive increase?
I've noticed BP Ultimate comes out differently in different stations. Since I got the car I have put it in and always takes £27-29 to fill her up. I went to a different BP a few days ago, was much quicker delivery and the car goes mad when you open it up and the turbo whistle is louder too.
Maybe in some stations it's normal diesel?
But have you noticed Des, that when you put this stuff in, the car makes a 'whoosh' sound when you lift off the accelerator.
I've done 160 miles since Friday evening and the Fuel needle still reports that I have a full tank . The MFA range has now dropped because of town driving but this still reports 450 miles left in the tank.
Ok now done 360 miles, and the needle has just passed the half way mark. MFA reports 180 miles left on tank but I have been making short trips and alot of town driving in the last couple of days. I'll be hitting the motorway this coming Wednesday, so I'll expect to get another 50 miles plus, on top of the 190 miles range reported by the MFA.
So I'm looking at 590 miles on a more than full tank of BP ultimate Diesel.
If you look inside the neck of the filler, there is a little lever, if you push the lever with the fuel nozzle, you can get an extra 5-6 litres into the tank, ie about 50l in a 45l tank... basically this is filling up the vent tank too, which is suppost to give leeway to allow the fuel to expand in hot weather.. it should be ok to use it in this cold weather, but only use it in summer if your about to go on a long journey, otherwise youll find that it will expand and leak out of the filler cap.

Although given that diesel does not give of a vapour until the temp hits 70oC while petrol gives a vapour at -45oC so you could say that in a diesel the expansion tank is more or less redundant, but do so at your own risk as I am using known theory on it with fuel temps, but educated guessing on the expansion issue
I just saw Nothing To Lose with tim Robbins and Martin Lawrence and noticed that in the scene where he is filling up at a "gas station" he paid
20 American money for 14 gallons for his big jeep. It is an old film but still compare that to todays prices here in the UK!

I dont think the expansion tank is for vapor.. IIRC, Diesel fuel density is sensitive to temperature.. which is why those rip off cheap tuning boxes work by telling the engine that the fuel is hot so needs to inject more to get the power... or i could be talking rubbish of course

Like i said, my way of thinking is based on theory, so i could be wrong as i haven't worked on cars for money for over 5 years.
