Looking to put new rims on my 1.2 5-door 9n

Guys, i dont know much about modding cars up but i wanna get a new set of rims to give my polo a new look. Currently i got the standard 14s on the car.

Im thinking of get 16 or 17 inch alloys . If i get 17s would it cause problems with them being pretty big? And what will i have to do with the suspension if i get bigger rims?

Any advice will be appreciated!

i've had 17s on mine before. they are fine, suit the arch size well but you loose abit of speed
as for suspension i would suggest a 40mm lower as your car will look like a 4x4! you can get a set of just springs for under Â£90 new
anything much lower and you will get problems with the arches catching- some have gone 50mm i think
i've also had 15s and they look quite small on the car, but look good when on coilovers (expensive suspension setup)

not the right place i know:

anyway m8, if your after some lowering springs, i have some Gmax -40mm lowering springs for a 9n. I will sell em for 50 quid + whatever postage is? they were on my 4 door VW polo 9n 1.4 16v for about 2 months.

Car is now on coilovers and slammed 60 - 70mm? on coilovers.... im also on 17" rims.

Personally I wouldn't fit 17"s on a 1.2 litre 9N because I think you will lose a lot of performance. Unless you don't care about that

But there are a lot of nice 15/16" alternatives also which would look nice on a some lowering (-40mm ~)

What performance there's non to loose lol
i have a 9n 1.2e 55 "yes the poverty spec one" with the exor 17" vw wheels lowered 50f/35r on eibach springs with the votex kit and everyone coments that it looks good if your not going to go fast you may as well look good with big wheels

lol i see where u coming from, mine is the 1.2e 65 bhp - and thats not powerfull at all

unless you have the GT then the reason we mod our polo's is purely based on looks.
the limits are 70mph, who cares if it takes 12 seconds to get there

i think i could do with the speed restriction if im being honest, not that my car is very nippy, but ive been known to beat 1.4s in my prime

16s/17s and 40mm spring drop seem like a good plan to me.

Get 17s m8 and lower it 30mm on eibachs, that`s what i`ve done on my gt without any problems, looks good imo and hasn`t lost any of it`s comfort

HI, Am after some alloys to, either 16's or 17's. Just wanted your opinions on the following

205/40/17, 5 stud, stud diameter 100, ofset 35.

Would these be ok for my 1.4 9n or would they cause me any probs? if so what probs?or would they be a stright fit and not cause me any probs or underperformance?

No barely makes a difference. VW will say 'oh it puts it right out' - in reality its only 1mph or something, if that! I personally havn't noticed, and as someone else said 17s with 205/40/17 tyres are alost the same as the sport alloys with the 55 tyres in diameter.

Agreed, I have 17" with an eibach suspension kit also. Still feels comfortable but you stick a bit more to the road, I like it, and of course, it looks nicer

makes zero difference on 205x40x17's

but clearly if your tyre size is wrong then it will do. you could have 18's and it'd still be fine with the right profile.
