I've tried a spanner and hammer and that failed big time? You think a socket will do it?

We're talking about the two bolts on the backside, that hold the carrier to the hub yeah?

Spanner and hammer won't work, you need some pretty serious torque to get them loosened. Also there's not enough clearance in the wheelarch to use the hammer method anyway.

So that's why you need an 18mm socket and a big breaker bar. And I'd suggest making sure your car is supported by axle stands and a good trolley jack.

Are people sure the 280mm discs are carriers will fit the GTI? I've got the carriers and i've looked at the pads, and the pads seem to small for the carriers. Haven't actually tried to fit them though. They better fit cause i've bought everything I need to do it now, except for a nice big breaker bar to get the bolts off behind the carriers :D

If they don't fit, then I'm not sure how the hell my brakes are working!

You need an impact wrench.

They should. I ordered the G60 Black Diamond pads, and they match the Polo GTi pads I already had.

Fitted my 280mm discs this morning. They fit like a glove, lol. There's hardly a mm between the disc and carrier, I can't believe how tight they are. With the GTI carriers and discs there was about 5mm either side. My car stops fine so they do fit, hehe. Bedding in process begins once again
Cheers people

When I put my new 280mm discs on I didn't put new pads on. It's to late now but does it matter? They were half worn, pitty to waste them
