I think my gearbox is on it's last, 54,900 miles

Post by 1 GTI »

Im not 100% sure if it's the gearbox, but I think it is. It's hard to describe the noise but it's not loud at all, although it's slightly noticable when the radio is off and windows are up. It's as if there's something on the tyre and the quicker you go the quicker the noise gets. It's hard to describe. How much would the gearbox set me back? Cheers people

I beleive a reconditioned gearbox is something in the region of £300, although it might be either side of that figure.

Front passenger side. Im hoping it's a wheel bearing. Got a VW mechanic coming tonight to do some work on my GTI and my father's car so i'll ask him to drive it and see what he thinks

My wipers do what yours do occasionally - they just dont stop going. I fix it with taking the selector to intermittent then to off.

I can't hear that noise over 3000RPM, it's bloody strange and annoying. Hate it when something goes wrong with my GTI, im used to it now though, hehe. Is your GTI ok now CYMRUPOLO?

What can that be if you've had your gearbox done though? That would annoy me because id know it's there. Im the sort of guy to listen for funny sounds coming from the car, sad I know
