Might be a dumb question.

Post by T40MO »

Right so today i ripped out the rear seats ... nice and light lol. But im not really into my performance because as the end of the day its still a 1.4 and im still 17. I can wait till Im a little older to get a nice fast car.
But the plan was to build an enclosure to house two 12" subs.
Now does it need to be built so a certain size ... dimentions etc for the subs to perform correctly? Or does it just need to be big, sturdy and have a big enough hole for the air to escape???

Thanks
Tom

depending on the type of subs they are mate and what amp etc you are running with them, But Yes if its an Enclosed box your best Looking on the Products website for the Dimensions the Sub will perform best At! or all the paper work that came with them if you still have it,

right cool.

So if it says the recommended enclosure for a seb is 1.5ft3 you would double it for putting two in?

also you might want to consider enclosed or ported for your build

enclosed : totally sealed box
ported: box with a hole for the air to escape

what sort of difference does it make?

enclosed-gives a tighter more deep bass
ported-gives not so much deep bass more higher tone of bass

Ported usually gives more low end deep bass although it all depends on the tuning frequency as to how low it will play (loudly anyway), I've got a ported box in mine.

Right guys thanks for the advice. I think it'll deffo be a ported box i'll go for because I'm not that much of an audiophile lol i just like my volume.
Next question is which subs, amp and headunit to choose.
I probably have a budget of around £400 but this could be increased if nessesary.
